Wassily Chair — Marcel Breuer, 1925
Created in 1925 at the legendary Bauhaus school, the Wassily Chair is one of the most revolutionary pieces of furniture ever designed. Marcel Breuer — inspired by the tubular steel frame of his bicycle — reimagined what a chair could be, stripping away all excess to reveal a pure, geometric structure that felt more like a sculpture than a seat.
Named in honour of Breuer's Bauhaus colleague Wassily Kandinsky, this chair was the first in history to use electroplated seamless steel tubing as its primary structure. The result is a piece that is simultaneously industrial and refined — a chair that looks as extraordinary today as it did a century ago.
Why You'll Love It
- A genuine icon of 20th-century design — over 100 years of design history in your home
